Iran’s ‘green gold’ olives head directly from Zanjan orchards to global markets
Zanjan - Direct exports of olives from Tarom County in Iran’s northwestern Zanjan province have begun, as authorities seek to expand overseas markets, strengthen the region’s brand, improve market management and increase the crop’s value added.
Zanjan is expected to produce more than 50,000 tons of olives this year, based on the province’s cultivated area and production forecasts. Agricultural authorities say preparations for direct exports from Tarom have been underway for several months, according to a report carried by the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Tarom is a major olive-producing hub, accounting for around half of Iran’s total olive output and playing a significant role in the region’s agricultural economy.
Officials expect more than 10% of Tarom’s olive production to be shipped to international markets, including Russia, Armenia, Iraq and the Persian Gulf states.
The direct-export program is designed to strengthen the global presence of Tarom’s olives, create greater value for producers and support the development of the region’s agricultural export chain.
